The Mercer Island Farmer’s Market is set to open June 3rd and we hope to see you there!

We’ve outlined a ton of other Eastside Farmers Market openings in a post a few weeks back, but we’re excited that the Sunday morning Mercer Island market is gearing to open! Starting June 3rd, they’ll be open Sundays 10am-3pm on market day from June through October 7th, with a Harvest Market on November 18th!

Located on the north end of Mercer Dale Park, Mercer Island’s market offers farm-fresh produce, prepared foods, fresh-cut flowers, local wines and hard ciders, and other delights, like jams, kombucha, honeys, and fresh pastas!

They’ve for weekly entertainments, including the Mercer Island High School bands, Silk Road String Quartet, The Birdwatchers, and more! Music runs from 11am-2pm on market days.

They’re entire schedule has been posted, starting with their June 3rd Opening Day, so be sure to check it out!

…and, for sanitary and safety reasons, non-service dogs aren’t allowed at the market, though they can be walked on the sidewalk around the perimeter of the market.

Mercer Island Farmers Market: Sunday September 4, 2016

Mercer Island Farmers Market Can you believe we have already entered the month of September?! We can certainly feel the Fall chill that has descended on the Seattle region the last couple of days. Stop by the Mercer Island Farmers Market this weekend to pick up the early varieties of Autumn produce, and the last of the summer crops. There are free recipes at the MIFM Info Booth to kick your gourmet creativity into high gear!

The Joe Blue Blues Band will provide live music at this Sunday’s MIFM. The trio will be kicking out some tasty blues rhythms for you to enjoy as you shop.

Did you know MIFM has some new dinosaur friends? Over at the Children’s Table, the kids will learn more about these dinosaurs, and be able to explore and create gardens with plants similar to ones from the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. So fun!

Mercer Island Farmers Market: July 31, 2016

Mercer Island Farmers Market Today will be all about beverages available at Mercer Island Farmers Market. You can quench your thirst with Kombucha, tea soda, ginger beer, juices, and smoothies. Shen Zen Tea‘s lemongrass kombucha is refreshing, Timber City‘s signature ginger beer is a spicy treat, while Juice Harbor’s selection of cold-pressed juices are especially appealing to the younger crowd. If you are a hard cider fan, FinnRiver Farm & Cidery brings their their ciders and brandy wine to MIFM. Other vendors who have booths in the alcoholic section near Bicentennial Park are Stomani Cellars, Four Horsemen Brewery, and Lowercase Brewing.

Live music will be provided today by Ronnda Cadle, with guest percussionist Rikki Evans. Ronnda plays original compositions on her guitar and perfected her music while listening to female guitarists, her greatest mentors – Nancy Wilson of Heart, Caroline Aiken, and Emily Saliers of Indigo Girls. From Ronnda’s website, “I wouldn’t be the player I am today if it were not for these strong and amazing women. I hope to bring my own voice to the generations of women musicians to follow.”

Over at the Children’s Table the kids will be able to paint the colors of the market. Kids, stop by and explore all the colors of the rainbow that you can see at MIFM from the veggies, fruits, flowers, herbs, and art offered by local farmers and artisans.

This week’s featured vendor is well within the thirsty theme of today’s market. Check out the MIFM home page to read the interview with Julie Petrocelli, owner of Juice Harbor. She sells a wide variety of cold pressed juices, smoothies and elixirs (wellness shots), using predominantly local and organic ingredients to make them.

Mercer Island Farmers Market: July 24, 2016

Mercer Island Farmers MarketThis week at Mercer Island Farmer’s Market (MIFM), they are celebrating summer veggies. Shoppers will be able to spot ears of corn, snap peas, cucumbers, peppers, a variety of summer greens, summer squash, tomatoes and more. Unlike the conventional grocery shopping experience, farmers market shoppers are able to find veggie varieties, and colors, that are usually not available at grocery stores. Stop by Lyall Farms, Alvarez Farms, Hedlin Farms, Kittatas Valley Greenhouse, True Her Gardens, Moua Gardens and Bao Gardens to see what veggies they have today!

Today’s live music at the market will be provided by Micheal Biller and Friends, one of MIFM’s favorite jazz ensembles. You’ll appreciate the classic jazz standards they will be playing along with more current selections.

Over at the Children’s Table, the kids can discover the sweet smells of summer. These lovely aromas come from herbs, flowers, and summer fruits and veggies.

The featured vendor of the week is Gourmini’s, one of the market’s newest food trucks to offer lunch. Gournami’s goal is to serve healthy food with big flavor to the people of the PNW. They make mini-sandwiches on Macrina Bakery baguettes accented by their house-made spreads, and a rotating menu of salads. Shoppers can mix-and-match selections to create the meal that will satisfy those hunger pains with healthy food. Head on over to the MIFM website to read their interview with Gourmini’s.

Mercer Island Farmers Market: July 16, 2016

Mercer Island Farmers Market Today’s Mercer Island Farmers Market (MIFM) will include a special Senior social hour from 1:30-2:30pm, over at the Senior Connections booth. Sponsored by Covenant Shores, seniors can stop by to visit, enjoy some free refreshments and fresh treats provided by market vendors, plus listen to live music.

Live music will be provided by Beth James, an Austin based folk duo composed of singer-songwriters Jordan Burchill and former Mercer Islander, Mikaela Kahn. Their music features their own unique expression of Americana, which includes a blend of modern folk, mindful pop, and lush soundscapes.

Over at the Children’s Table, Little Red Hen needs assistance planting her wheat for the upcoming fall harvest. She needs her wheat to grow so she can bake her world-famous bread. The kids are encouraged to stop by and help Little Red Hen with her planting!

Today’s featured vendor at MIFM is Harvesting Autumn, an Omak flats farm that offers fresh produce and plant starts for purchase. Over at the children’s table kids can learn more about growing garlic, and even bring home a garlic sprout kit to grow their own at home. Live music will be provided by Kelly Bosworth, an Americana singer/songwriter whose single Waters hit #7 on the folk DJ charts and is played across the country.

The volunteers at Mercer Island Farmers Market have put together an excellent menu of activities and vendors to make your 4th of July special. Mercer Island Farmers Market: June 26, 2016

Sunday, June 26th, will be the last Garden Month market at Mercer Island Farmers Market (MIFM). Market organizers enjoy the opportunity to invite garden vendors to make the first month of the season really special. During June they endeavor to provide the Mercer Island community “something special and unique to bring to the table along with the fabulous food our farmers and food vendors provide.”

June 26th will be the last time these vendors will be at MIFM until their Harvest Market in November. Enjoy the sunshine forecast for Sunday while supporting these local artists — some of the items that will be available  include the following:

Live music will be provided by Zach Lombardo. Following June’s Garden Month theme, the activity at the Children’s Table center on Garden Visitors – I wonder if slugs will make an appearance during this activity!

Featured vendor will be Mercer Island-based Coco Beza – take a look at their line of soaps, salves, balms and solid lotion bars that feature sustainable, organic, eco-friendly ingredients. A larger snapshot of Coca Beza is available on the MIFM website.

2016 Mercer Island Farmers Market Season Starts Sunday, June 5th!

Mercer Island Are you excited for the return of the Mercer Island Farmers Market (MIFM)? We sure are!! The first market day of the season is this upcoming Sunday, June 5th, at Mercerdale Park.

Beloved MIFM programs will be back again this season! Check out the list:

  • Children’s Table: volunteers offer hands-on activities to help enhance children’s understanding of healthy eating, gardening and nature.
  • Master Gardeners: volunteers are part of the WSU Master Gardener program. They offer advice to gardeners every market day.
  • Music: live music is featured, adding to the friendly, lively atmosphere of the farmers market.
  • Tastings: opportunities to try foods sold at the market are offered several times a month during the market season. Tastings help educate the community about farmers market products, plus promote healthy cooking and eating.

Mercer Island Farmers Market: Holiday Market, Sunday November 22, 2015

iStock_000021580592_Full Sunday, November 22nd, is the the offical last market of Mercer Island Farmers Market’s 2015 season. Head on over to Mercerdale Park between 10 am and 3pm to shop locally for fresh fruit and vegetables, your cranberries for sauce and other tasty Thanksgiving dishes, and other items to make your Thanksgiving dinner special. You can also get a head start on your holiday gift shopping. Maybe plan to meet friends for lunch; there will be prepared food vendors there as well.

Mercer Island Farmer’s Market shared the following 2015 market season stats on their home page:

  • Hosted a total of 58 vendors, 23 of whom were farmer vendors.
  • Donated 1,500 pounds of produce to the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services Food Pantry and St. Monica’s Church to support our Islander families in need.
  • Diverted two tons of waste per month from landfills through the Cedar Grove composting program.
  • Provided hands-on activities every week at the Children’s Table to teach children about nutrition and farming, led by Judy Witmer, expert early childhood and parent educator.

Congratulations to all the people who make the MIFM happen each year. We sincerely appreciate your efforts. Cheers to some respite before you start working on the 2016 market season!

Last Mercer Island Farmers Market For 2015 Season: Sunday October 11,2015

freeimage-1101727 The last regular season market day for Mercer Island Farmers Market is this Sunday, October 11th. We are so sad to see the 2015 market season wrapping up, but we’re already looking forward to the Harvest Market scheduled for November 22nd!

The highly anticipated Pumpkin Pie Baking Contest will be held during Sunday’s market. Windermere Mercer Island broker Kathryn Lerner is going to be one of the judges. Be prepared to be amazed at all the fabulous bakers who entered the contest!!

Live music will be provided by Mercer Island’s own Patrick Dougherty and his bluesy band On the Rock.

Over at The Children’s Table With Judy, kids can get creative and design a squash person to take home.

Master Gardeners: Members of Master Gardeners Foundation of King County will be on site to answer questions. Stop by their booth to learn more about gardening best practices and find answers to those tricky garden problems you have been dealing with.
