Mercer Island City Council Talks 2018-2019 Goals

Original article found on Mercer Island Reporter.

Mercer Island’s goals address mobility, the budget, sustainability, and the arts, which is articulated in their draft for the city’s 2018-2019 “top priorities.”

Other items of note, include the city’s aging infrastructure, a plan for emergency preparedness enhancements, addressing outdated codes, policies, and procedures, and parking and transit issues around Mercer Island.

Though their goals appear lofty, it’s a great direction to start off the new year, though some councilmembers remain unsure if the “list should be aspirational or a checklist by which they could measure their performance next year.” Regardless, several action steps were brought up during their initial meeting for the first seven topics on their agenda.

As part of their goal of being a proactive community, Mercer Island councilmembers are striving towards preventing fires and addressing issues before they arise, allowing the City and Council to better regulate energy and budget expenditures across Mercer Island departments.
