King County Residents: Compost Days Kicks Off Spring Gardening Season!

20160218_091723“Compost Days” is back to kick off the 2016 gardening season! What is “Compost Days” exactly? It’s a region-wide campaign to thank King County residents for their excellence in composting and diverting 375,000 tons of food, food-soiled paper, and yard waste from landfills during 2015.

The event is sponsored by Cedar Grove and open to all King County residents. It runs from March 17 to April 17. You can download coupons for discounted Cedar Grove products to use for gardening projects to redeem at participating retailers. Right here on Mercer Island the coupons may be redeemed at the True Value Hardware in Town Center.

It really does makes a big difference recylcing your food scraps in your free curbside yard waste cart. Nearly 30% of what we throw away in our garbage is material that should be composted instead. With the compost that was created from food scraps recycled in 2015, Cedar Grove was able to donate over half mile of compost to local gardens through their Big Garden Give.
